With the coming holidays fast approaching, the seasons are changing as well, bringing forth a colder weather. This change in weather from warm to cool entails a higher risk in catching common sickness and diseases such as coughs and colds. The human body can adapt significantly along with the change of the seasons. Making sure that the body adjusts with respect to the seasons is an important in avoiding catching colds. In order to achieve this, the body’s immune system must be prepared and strengthened for such an event. There are several suggestions in how this can be accomplished, ensuring a more stress free and sickness free holiday season.
There are two ways of achieving the desired effect of strengthening the body’s immune system, either naturally or synthetically. Medicines are normally taken as a cure but not normally as a preventive measure, with the possible exception of vitamin tablets. People say prevention is better than a cure. As such, there is no harm in giving an effort in taking better care of the body. It may save more you more than money in the long run.
First, it is important to be getting enough sleep. This may be obvious or more difficult for some, most especially with the holidays. Losing sleep for long spans of time decreases the body’s ability to fight diseases. Approximate eight hours of sleep is recommended to getting a stronger immune system as well as enjoying a more stress free holiday.
Consume a good amount of fruits and veggies. Eating healthy foods adds to the body’s natural immune system, increasing chances of avoiding getting sick. This may seem more difficult especially during times of feasting but essential in achieving a more stress free and cold free holiday season. Consumption of certain foods are also known to increase the sensation of feeling good, increasing production of endorphins and the common cold will be avoided.
Exercise as much as you can. Half an hour a day helps you keep fit and healthy during the times of cool weather. The added muscular movement also increases the body’s endorphins and the common cold will have a hard time attacking your immune system. This exercising activity boosts the endorphins and the common cold is avoided with performing this energizing activity. Early morning jogs or brisk walking can be fun and helpful way in this achieving this endeavor of naturally strengthening the immune system by increasing the endorphins, and the common cold will be evaded.
The release of endorphins can also be stimulated by other outdoor activities. Although with the current cold climate, this may seem odd but highly effective. Studies show that indoor air contains more germs and as such, being enclosed in an air tight space for too long can actually cause more harm than good. Play in the snow or go for a snowball fight. The activity will increase your endorphins and the common cold will be eluded.
Take these suggested steps to ensure a more fun and less stressful holiday season. Holidays only come once a year and should be spent well with family and loved ones as memories last longer and are more valuable than the cold.
